It is with great regret that we must announce that the glorious administration of President Neil Heyman and his loosely affiliated band of siblings has come to an end. After a great year, the DePaul Democrats have handed the reigns over to a brand new E-board, led by President Stacy Raker.

This year, we hosted Senator (and potential future US President) Barack Obama for an important campaign speech, as well as author and journalist Jeremy Scahill and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky on the topic of Blackwater and private military contracts. Between anti-war demonstrations, movie nights, and spirited debates, we have rounded out another fantastic year and set the stage for more, as we head into the fall election with our (your?) favorite campus group, the College Democrats.

At today's meeting, we elected a new E-board:
• President - Stacy Raker
• Vice President - Ryan Frey
• Treasurer - Betsy McDonald
• Secretary - Elliot Trapp
• Communications Director - Emily Basten
• Political Director - RJ Towner
• Membership Director - Margaret O'Leary
• Events Director - Annie Schmidt
Webmastering duties will be taken over by Chuck Adams. Welcome, guys, and best of luck in the coming years.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Brian Wolf, our outgoing Events Director, who, due to alleged "commitments" such as "graduation" and "life" will not be serving us again next quarter. Brian did a great job in whatever it is the Events Director is supposed to do. I think it has something to do with events.

Taking Brian's place will be Stacy Raker, whose service is slowly shifting the gender ratio of E-Board back into balance. So, thanks Brian. We expect to see you at the next E-Board meeting sitting in the corner with the Reader, just for old times sake. And welcome, Stacy, we're sure you'll do a great job.

Welcome back to a new year, and a new quarter with the DePaul Dems. With the conclusion of the Iowa Caucuses on the 3rd, it's obviously going to be a busy, but hopefully enjoyable, year in US politics. Please join the DePaul Dems for our first General Body meeting this quarter on Thursday, January 10, as we plan events on and around campus for this term. See you there!

This is big. On Tuesday, October 2, Illinois Senator and presidential candidate Barack Obama will be delivering a major campaign foreign policy speech from DePaul's Lincoln Park Student Center. October 2nd is the fifth anniversary of Obama initially coming out in opposition against George Bush's ill-advised venture into Iraq, and, while Obama will be speaking to the press and the nation at large, he will, more importantly, be speaking to us.

Space is limited and alloted by invitation only, however, inquiries may be directed to demsobamaevent@gmail.com. We are also attempting to figure out a way for people not present inside the Student Center's multipurpose room to possibly view the speech live on TV.

Meet our (and, if you plan to be joining us again or for the first time this year, your) E-Board for the 2007-08 school year. Please click the "Executive Board" in the upper left of the page to view a list of E-Board members and the positions they occupy. Click on anyone's name to view their bio and their lovely (or somewhat less lovely) picture. We are all looking forward to this year and hope to see you all at meetings!

Of the year, that is. We have held the last meeting of the 2006-2007 school year, ratified our new constitution, and elected new officials for the coming school year. We'd like to thank all of you who attended and all of your who made this such a great year. Let us not forget, we got the chairman of the DNC to speak at our school less than a week before the midterm election (among other things). You all made us the campus group to beat this year. read more (58 words)

About the DePaul College Democrats.

The DePaul College Democrats is the Democratic Party's official undergraduate representative on DePaul University's campus. The DePaul Democrats is a member of the College Democrats of America, as well as the Illinois Federation of College Democrats. Over the last year and a half, the DePaul Democrats have grown from a small organization with only four members to one of the most active student groups on campus with over 1300 students on our e-mail list and an average of thirty-five to forty members at our bi-weekly meetings. We experienced this phenomenal growth because of dedicated members and adherence to our values of community, education, and activism.

The organization is involved in all parts of the political process. From registering voters and working on the grassroots level in the DePaul and Chicago community to phone banking and leafleting on campaigns to discussing policy matters with local and national leaders, the DePaul Democrats have a strong dedication and commitment to the core values of the Democratic party. In recent years, we have hosted numerous speakers, worked on many exciting races, registered hundreds of new and first-time voters, and met countless prominent Democrats.

We are proud of our continued growth and passionate commitment to spreading progressive Democratic values throughout Chicago and America.
